My friend Katrina is participating in the MS Walk in Walnut Creek, California in April, as she does every year to raise money for multiple sclerosis. Katrina’s mom June has MS and thus this is a cause very dear to her heart. I spent an awesomely fun girls’ weekend in Vegas with Katrina and June and Abbe (Katrina’s sister) last year, and June is an amazing woman with a wicked sense of humor (and the nerve to hit on Scottie Pippen in the hotel buffet line!!). I also recently learned that my sister’s friend Joanne was diagnosed with late-onset multiple sclerosis. I made a small donation to the MS Walk in hopes that they will find a cure in time to help June and Joanne and everyone else suffering from MS (I wish I could afford more!) and I hope that others will consider doing the same – to make a donation in support of Katrina’s MS Walk efforts, pleaseĀ click here.

Just because I haven’t posted a picture to the blog in awhile, here’s a picture of June, Abbe, Katrina, and me at the Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas:

Other people are so much more motivated than me

Other People: Training for months to run a marathon or walk a 5K, and raising funds for worthy causes.

Me: posting a couple of links on my blog in support and humbling asking my loyal readership of roughly three people to consider donating.

In all seriousness:

My friend Katrina is participating in the Walk MS event in northern California in May, which is raising money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Katrina’s mother was diagnosed with MS in 2000 and so Katrina has seen first hand the debilitating effects that the disease has had on her mother’s quality of life.

My friend Beth’s sister Robin (yes, I know this is bordering on “my cousin’s best friend’s uncle’s college roommate’s little sister” type six-degrees-of-separation) and her husband will be running the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon as part of the Team-in-Training effort that raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is a cause that is particularly important to me personally because one of my close friends from high school, Megan, lost her life to leukemia in November 2004.

Both of these causes are really worthwhile and every little bit helps. I encourage all three of you to consider donating.
